Children solve problems in the moment. When I work with children individually, we can bring up old trauma gently with puppets or art or other kinds of play. However, when there are problems which are on-going, or when parents and siblings can take an active role in making things better, I like to work with whole families (or siblings together, or parents together). With lots of people involved, and with healing happening outside the therapy hour, lasting change can happen much more quickly. It can sometimes be a challenge to get the whole family to come, but is definitely worth the effort.
